Dogwood Hills Academy embraces the Georgia Early Learning and Development Standards (GELDS). These research-based early learning standards were recently developed and implemented to promote quality learning experiences for children birth through age five. The standards were developed to be flexible for a child’s individual development and growth.
At Dogwood Hills Academy, our teachers use their experience and knowledge along with the GELDS to support growth of the whole child through:
- Physical Development and Motor Skills
- Social and Emotional Development
- Approaches to Play and Learning
- Communication, Language and Literacy
- Cognitive Development and General Knowledge
At Dogwood Hills Academy children learn through planned activities that are age-appropriate and build on skills that are age-appropriate and challenging. Many of our alumni children are placed in advanced classes while attending elementary school, based on the structured learning environment they experienced at Dogwood Hills Academy.
How We Teach
Dogwood Hills Academy uses a balanced approach for the education of young children. Each day includes both child-initiated and teacher directed activities. Daily reports are provided to keep our parents informed of classroom activities and their child’s performance during the day. The implementation of the Georgia Early Learning Standards provides a continuum for building on skills and knowledge obtained during each child’s younger years. At Dogwood Hills Academy, we believe this continuity of goals and objectives establishes the best framework for early childhood development and school readiness.
At Dogwood Hills Academy the learning environment in each classroom is designed to encourage children to participate in a variety of age-appropriate developmental activities and experiences. Special centers for dramatic play, creative art, science, reading, blocks and puzzles provide each child the opportunity to explore independently and confidently.
Our huge nature-surrounded playground offers four separate play areas, splash park and expansive covered patio for our children to enjoy.
Our safe and secure facility provides our dedicated, loving teaching professionals the necessary environment to care and nurture each child from infant to school-age.
Safety and Security
Safety and security are top priorities at Dogwood Hills Academy. Our controlled access system only allows authorized individuals to enter our building and surrounding play areas. Unlike centers located in busy commercial areas where anyone can watch the children, our nature surrounded campus allows privacy and security. All visitors are identified and escorted while in the building. Our biometric fingerprint check-in/out system assures accountability for your child. In addition, a member of our safety trained management staff is always on site.
